Prayer for America From - reMarks,The Mark Lowry Internet Newsletter,http://www.marklowry.com
Verses for September 11, 2001-- Terrorist Attack: Psa. 106:23 So he said he would destroy them--had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them. PRAYER: Father, you would have destroyed your people had not Moses, stood in the gap for them. We turn wholeheartedly to you, standing in the gap for America today. We rely not on our own righteousness, but on your heart of compassion, not on our own strength but on your tremendous power, not on our own worthiness but in your merciful heart of forgiveness. Joel 2:12-18 Even now,"declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning." Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love...Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children... Spare your people, O LORD. PRAYER: Lord, we return to you and rend our hearts before you. We praise you for your graciousness and compassion. Turn and have pity, Lord, as we blow the trumpet in Zion, as we declare a holy fast, and call a sacred assembly. Spare your people, O Lord. 1Sam. 12:23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. PRAYER: Lord, let me see my position as an intercessor for my country as a high and holy calling. Failing to pray for my land and my countrymen is a sin against you. Strengthen me in my resolve to pray. 1Tim. 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone -- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. PRAYER: Father, I lift up President Bush, his family, and all members of his administration. I pray the members of Congress, members of the armed forces, and all state and local governments. Lord, teach us to live lives that are orderly and just. During this troubled time as we are forced to defend our land against terrorists, give us the courage and the tenacity we will need to bring about your will in our land. I pray that all Americans may be saved and come to know you and your truth. Daniel 2:20-22 [Daniel] said: "Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. PRAYER: I praise you, Lord, that in the midst of our confusion, you are wisdom. In the midst of our weakness, you are strength. You establish times and seasons. You lift up leaders and nations and bring them down. You give understanding and knowledge to those who are humble enough to receive them. You reveal deep and hidden secrets. You bring light into every dark place, for in you there is no darkness at all. Help us and our leaders to stay connected to you that we may operate in your wisdom and power. Psa. 5:10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. PRAYER: Lord, we acknowledge that the battle belongs to you. We ask you to bring judgment against our enemies in this day of terror. May we see and understand that the violent deeds they have leveled against us are rebellious acts of evil against you and your authority. And may we also see that our deliverance must be from your hand. Psa. 60:11-12 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies. PRAYER: Lord, apart from you we can do nothing. But with your courage and strength we will gain victory. Come to our aid. Psa. 91:7-10 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you make the Most High your dwelling -- even the LORD, who is my refuge -- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. PRAYER: Lord, as we are faced with these atrocities, teach us to dwell in the security of knowing you. Our lives are in your hand. Psa. 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. PRAYER: Lord, there is no weapon of war but your name Ð no refuge but your Word, no victory but your overwhelming power. We will trust in you. Psa. 127:1 Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. PRAYER: Lord, we have prided ourselves in our weapons and our systems of defense. How arrogant we have been. Today we see so clearly that apart from you, we are totally vulnerable. Unless you stand guard, we are without hope. Watch over our country Lord. I acknowledge on behalf of my countrymen our desperate need for you. Psa. 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. PRAYER: You have blessed us since we were a new nation because we trusted you. Now many hearts have turned from you. Forgive us, Father. Draw us back to you. Psa. 46:1-7 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. PRAYER: Lord God, you are our refuge and our strength. Our hearts are your city, your dwelling place and you are the River that flows through the center of who we are. Though there is chaos and uproar all around us, keep us steady and still and serenely focused on you and your goodness. You, O God are our fortress. Psa. 108:3-6 I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth. Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered. PRAYER: O Lord, our hope is in you. What has been so available to us, we have taken for granted. Forgive our nation, Lord. I intercede for those who have turned their backs on you. May many see your greatness, your faithfulness, your glory and be saved. 2Chr. 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. PRAYER: Lord God, we humble our hearts before you today. We seek your face and turn from our sinful and worldly preoccupations. Thank you for your promise to hear us when we call on you. Hear us now, Father. Forgive us and heal our land. |
